Reggio Calabria: The Gate of Calabria and the Riace Bronzes
Reggio Calabria, one of Calabria’s major coastal cities, is separated from Sicily by the Strait of Messina. The city is famous for its National Archaeological Museum, which houses the famous Riace Bronzes, two life-size ancient Greek statues that are among the most significant works of classical art. Nearby, the Bergamot Museum offers a fascinating display of the tools used to extract oil from this prized citrus fruit. To the east, Aspromonte National Park, with its beech and pine forests, is a nature reserve that is home to a wealth of wildlife, including wolves, wild boars, and deer.
