Gioia Tauro: History, Sea and Culture of Calabria
Gioia Tauro is a municipality of 19,070 inhabitants in the Metropolitan City of Reggio Calabria. Located on the Tyrrhenian coast, Gioia Tauro is an important agricultural, commercial and industrial center. The city is famous for its history, which dates back to the Magna Graecia era with the foundation of Metauros around the 7th century BC. The archaeological finds of Metauros, including numerous Greek artifacts, are preserved in important museums such as the National Archaeological Museum of Reggio Calabria and the Metauros Museum of the city. The city is also famous for its port, one of the most important in southern Italy.
