Pizzo is a coastal village, perched on a promontory in the center of the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia. Its territory includes a jagged coastline, characterized by sandy beaches in some stretches and rocks in others. On the north-east coast, from the Mediterranean pine forest to the fortress, almost 9 km of wide sandy beaches extend. At the end of the Marinella district, the mountain of Vibo rises, which acts as a curtain to the territory, which has its border with Maierato and Vibo Valentia up high, on the crest of the hills. Further south, where the tuff mass on which Pizzo was born and developed rises, the coast becomes rocky with numerous coves and areas rich in natural rocks, as well as several caves, including the Grotta Azzurra, reopened in recent years, after various interventions for protection from the wave motion. In the central area there is the Seggiola beach, a small fjord in the center of the tuff rock on which the town is perched, dominated by the Aragonese Castle built in the second half of the 15th century by Ferrante d’Aragona and the Marina, a charming seaside resort and nightlife spot.
