Copanello di Stalettì: The Pearl of the Ionian Catanzaro
Copanello, a hamlet of the municipality of Stalettì in the province of Catanzaro, is a splendid location located along the Ionian coast of Calabria, south of the capital. Also known as the “Pearl of the Ionian Catanzarese”, Copanello is divided into two main areas: Copanello Alto and Copanello Lido.
Geography of Copanello
The hamlet of Copanello is bordered to the north by the Alessi river and to the south by the Lamia stream. Located in the center of the Gulf of Squillace, it is part of the splendid Costa degli Aranci or Costa dei Saraceni. The area of Copanello Lido is located right on the coast, at sea level, at the foot of the mountain Coscia di Stalettì (also known as Mons Moscius during the time of Cassiodorus), while Copanello Alto is located on the same mountain, about 100 meters above sea level, with a breathtaking panoramic view of the Gulf of Squillace.
